Online co-op supports up to 16 players. Since 1.0.3, the host’s upgrade matrix applies across the crew.

Start with a small crew
Steam lists online co-op for up to 16 people. You do not need a full lobby to benefit from a shared plan. Begin with one or two friends, agree where to work and make sure everyone can complete a delivery before expanding the operation.
Choose the person whose world you want to use and let that host establish the session. Keep track of whose save holds your group’s work. This guide does not promise that every participant receives a separate copy of the host’s world.
Shared upgrades changed after launch
The 1.0.3 notes state that the crew uses the host’s upgrade matrix and a purchase upgrades everyone. Existing saves retain the highest purchased levels. Reviews complaining that each crewmate must buy the same matrix upgrades refer to launch behavior and should not be treated as the current rule.
The confirmed scope is the upgrade matrix. Do not assume every tool, carried item or personal setting is shared just because matrix upgrades are. Agree on the next purchase and check its in-game effect together.
Make the session easy to coordinate
Give people simple roles: clean a nearby area, handle deliveries or inspect a production section. Rotate when someone wants a different task. Mark the active work area and avoid rebuilding someone else’s belt while they are testing it.
The host can use ESC → Your Crew to kick, ban or unban players. For a recurring group, use those controls deliberately and tell the crew before changing access. If a bug appears only for one joining player, compare that view with the host and record both. Everyone should update before reconnecting; mixed versions make diagnosis harder.
